The Brand (Part II)
BREAKTHROUGH
IDENTITY HAS AS MUCH AS POWER ENCOUNTER
Ex. Israel’s Problem with identity
- Grasshoppers
- Didn’t feel they deserved it
- Still saw themselves as slaves not victors
2 Peter 1:9
9 For he who lacks these
things is shortsighted, even to blindness, and has forgotten that he was cleansed
from his old sins.
I.
BEFORE
1.
Spiritually
Dead
Romans
5:12
12 Therefore,
just as through one man sin entered the world, and death through sin, and thus death
spread to all men, because all sinned.
(“The death”)
came to all men. “Came” is diēlthen, literally “passed or went
through” or “spread through.” Eisēlthen,
“entered into” (the first clause in the verse) means that sin went
in the world’s front door (by means of Adam’s sin); and diēlthen, “went
through,” means that death penetrated the entire human race,
The reason death spread to all, Paul explained, is that all sinned. The Greek past (aorist)
tense occurs in all three verbs in this verse. So the entire human race is
viewed as having sinned in the one act of Adam’s sin.
2.
Under
the Domain of Satan
Ephesians 2:1-3
1And
you He made alive, who were dead in trespasses and sins, 2 in
which you once walked according to the course of this world, according to the
prince of the power of the air, the spirit who now works in the sons of
disobedience, 3 among whom also we all once conducted ourselves
in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind,
and were by nature children of wrath, just as the others.
3.
Blind
to the Things of God
Ephesians
4:17-18
17 This
I say, therefore, and testify in the Lord, that you should no longer walk as
the rest of the Gentiles walk, in the futility of their mind, 18 having
their understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God,
because of the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart.
4.
Hopeless
Ephesians
2:12-13
12 That
at that time ye were without Christ, being aliens
from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers from the covenants
of promise, having no hope, and without
God in the world.
5.
Hoodwinked
2
Corinthians 4:3-4
3 But
even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing, 4 whose
minds the god of this age has blinded, who do not believe, lest the
light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God, should
shine on them.
6.
Enemies
of God
Romans
5:10
10 For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled
to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we
shall be saved by his life.
II.
ENTER
JESUS
1.
Became
Sin on our behalf
2
Corinthians 5:21
21 For
he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might
be made the righteousness of God in him.
Hebrews
9:28
28 So
Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them
that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation.
2.
Became
our Defense Attorney
1
Timothy 2:5
5 For
there is one God, and one
mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus.
Hebrews
7:25
25 Therefore
He is also able to save to the uttermost those who come to God
through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for them.
3.
Shed
His Blood
1
Peter 1:18-19
18 For as much
as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain
conversation received by tradition
from your fathers; 19 But with the precious blood of Christ, as
of a lamb without blemish and without spot.
Hebrews
9:14
14 How
much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit
offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from
dead works to serve the living God?
4.
Broke
the Power of Sin
Romans
6:14
14 For
sin shall not have dominion over you, for you are not under law but under
grace.
5.
Filled
us with Himself
Ephesians
1:13
13 In
Him you also trusted, after you heard
the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in whom also, having believed,
you
were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise.
6.
Gave
us Everything We Need
2
Peter 1:3
3 as
His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness,
through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and
virtue
III.
NOT
THE SAME
1.
Born
Again.
1
Peter 1:23
23 Being
born
again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word
of God, which lives and abides forever.
2.
Justified.
Romans
5:1
1Therefore, being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:
Romans
8:28-33
28 And we know that all things work
together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according
to His purpose. 29 For
whom He foreknew, He also predestined to
be conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the firstborn among
many brethren. 30 Moreover whom He predestined, these He also
called; whom He called, these He also justified; and whom He justified, these
He also glorified. 31 What then shall we say to these things? If
God is for us, who can be against us? 32 He who did
not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall. 33 Who
shall bring a charge against God’s elect? It is God who justifies.
3.
Sanctified.
1
Corinthians. 1:2
2 Unto
the church of God which is at Corinth, to them that are sanctified in Christ
Jesus, called to be
saints, with all that in every place call upon the name of Jesus Christ our
Lord, both theirs and ours.
4.
Blameless
Before Him in Love.
Ephesians
1:3-4
3 Blessed
be the God and Father of our Lord
Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ, 4 just
as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be
holy and without blame before Him in love.
5.
Children
of God
Romans
8:16
16 The
Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God.
6.
Temples
of the Holy Spirit and The Living God
1
Corinthians. 6:19
19 Or
do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God,
and you are not your own?
1
Corinthians. 3:16-17
16 Do
you not know that you are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you? 17 If anyone
defiles the temple of God, God will destroy him. For the temple of God is holy,
which temple you are.
7.
Royalty.
1
Peter 2:9-10
9 But you are a chosen
generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His
own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who
called you out of darkness into His marvelous light; 10 who
once were not a people but are now the people of God, who had not
obtained mercy but now have obtained mercy.
