Jesus Would Speak in Parables
Matthew 13:34
3All these things Jesus spoke to the multitude in parables; and without a parable He did not speak to them
Jesus would teach by types
a. Sheep – Needy and dependent
John 10:27
27 My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me.
b. Servants – Don’t know what Lord is doing
John 15:15
15 No longer do I call you servants, for a servant does not know what his master is doing…”.
c. Friends – friendship
John 15:15
“…but I have called you friends, for all things that I heard from My Father I have made known to you.”
d. Sons – Heirs but not total equality; sons and fathers can’t reproduce.
Romans 8:16
16 The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God
Gal 4:6
6 And because you are sons, God has sent forth the Spirit of His Son into your hearts, crying out, “Abba, Father!”
e. Soldiers – Obedience and battle
2 Tim 2:4
4 No one engaged in warfare entangles himself with the affairs of this life, that he may please him who enlisted him as a soldier.
I. THE MARRIAGE PICTURE
1. John the Baptist Mentioned it
John 3:28-29
You yourselves bear me witness, that I said, ‘I am not the Christ,’ but, ‘I have been sent before Him.’ 29 He who has the bride is the bridegroom; but the friend of the bridegroom, who stands and hears him, rejoices greatly because of the bridegroom’s voice. Therefore this joy of mine is fulfilled.
2. Jesus Declared it
Matthew 9:14-15
Then the disciples of John came to Him, saying, “Why do we and the Pharisees fast often, but Your disciples do not fast?” 15 And Jesus said to them, “Can the friends of the bridegroom mourn as long as the bridegroom is with them? But the days will come when the bridegroom will be taken away from them, and then they will fast.
Matt 22:1-3
And Jesus answered and spoke to them again by parables and said: 2 “The kingdom of heaven is like a certain king who arranged a marriage for his son, 3 and sent out his servants to call those who were invited to the wedding; and they were not willing to come
Matt 25:1-4
“Then the kingdom of heaven shall be likened to ten virgins who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom. 2 Now five of them were wise, and five were foolish. 3 Those who were foolish took their lamps and took no oil with them, 4 but the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps.
3. Paul Taught it
Ephesians 5:31-32
31 “For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh.” 32 This is a great mystery, but I speak concerning Christ and the church.
II. THE MARRIAGE IMPLICATIONS
1. Provision
Eph 5:25-28 (Nourishes and cherishes)
28 So husbands ought to love their own wives as their own bodies; he who loves his wife loves himself. 29 For no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as the Lord does the church.
2. Protection.
3. Healing
4. Information or Revelation
5. Authority.
6. Access.
7. Success.
8. Jealousy.
Exodus 34:14
14 (for you shall worship no other god, for the Lord, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God).
