EXPERIENCING THE RESURRECTION
John 19:25-30
25 Now there stood by the cross of Jesus His mother, and His mother’s sister, Mary
the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene.
26 When Jesus therefore saw His mother, and the disciple whom He loved standing by, He said to
His mother, “Woman, behold your son!”
27 Then He said to the disciple, “Behold your mother!” And from that hour that disciple took
her to his own home.
28 After this, Jesus, [a] knowing that all things were now accomplished, that the Scripture might be
fulfilled, said, “I thirst!”
29 Now a vessel full of sour wine was sitting there; and they filled a sponge with sour wine,
put it on hyssop, and put it to His mouth.
30 So when Jesus had received the sour wine, He said, “It is finished!” And bowing His head, He
gave up His spirit.
John 20:1-18
1 Now on the first day of the week Mary Magdalene went to the tomb early, while it was still
dark, and saw that the stone had been taken away from the tomb.
2 Then she ran and came to Simon Peter, and to the other disciple, whom Jesus loved, and said to
them, “They have taken away the Lord out of the tomb, and we do not know where they have
laid Him.”
3 Peter therefore went out, and the other disciple, and were going to the tomb.
4 So they both ran together, and the other disciple outran Peter and came to the tomb first.
5 And he, stooping down and looking in, saw the linen cloths lying there; yet he did not go in.
6 Then Simon Peter came, following him, and went into the tomb; and he saw the linen cloths
lying there,
7 and the handkerchief that had been around His head, not lying with the linen cloths, but folded
together in a place by itself.
8 Then the other disciple, who came to the tomb first, went in also; and he saw and believed.
9 For as yet they did not know the Scripture, that He must rise again from the dead.
10 Then the disciples went away again to their own homes.
11 But Mary stood outside by the tomb weeping, and as she wept she stooped down and looked
into the tomb.
12 And she saw two angels in white sitting, one at the head and the other at the feet, where the
body of Jesus had lain.
13 Then they said to her, “Woman, why are you weeping?” She said to them, “Because they have
taken away my Lord, and I do not know where they have laid Him.”
14 Now when she had said this, she turned around and saw Jesus standing there, and did not
know that it was Jesus.
15 Jesus said to her, “Woman, why are you weeping? Whom are you seeking?” She, supposing
Him to be the gardener, said to Him, “Sir, if You have carried Him away, tell me where You have
laid Him, and I will take Him away.”
16 Jesus said to her, “Mary!” She turned and said to Him, “Rabboni!” (which is to say, Teacher).
17 Jesus said to her, “Do not cling to Me, for I have not yet ascended to My Father; but go to My
brethren and say to them, ‘I am ascending to My Father and your Father, and to My God and
your God.’ ”
18 Mary Magdalene came and told the disciples that she had seen the Lord, and that He had
spoken these things to her.
Mary was the first person to Encounter the Resurrection of Jesus.
1. No matter where you come from you can encounter the Resurrection
Luke 8:1-2
1 Now it came to pass, afterward, that He went through every city and village, preaching and
bringing the glad tidings of the kingdom of God. And the twelve were with Him,
2 and certain women who had been healed of evil spirits and infirmities—Mary called
Magdalene, out of whom had come seven demons
2. You must start by seeing the Cross
John 19:25-30
25 Now there stood by the cross of Jesus His mother, and His mother’s sister, Mary
the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene.
26 When Jesus therefore saw His mother, and the disciple whom He loved standing by, He
said to His mother, “Woman, behold your son!”
27 Then He said to the disciple, “Behold your mother!” And from that hour that disciple took
her to his own home.
28 After this, Jesus, [a] knowing that all things were now accomplished, that the Scripture might
be fulfilled, said, “I thirst!”
29 Now a vessel full of sour wine was sitting there; and they filled a sponge with sour wine,
put it on hyssop, and put it to His mouth.
30 So when Jesus had received the sour wine, He said, “It is finished!” And bowing His head,
He gave up His spirit.
3. Claim the Benefits of Resurrection
Romans 6:4
4 Therefore we were buried with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was
raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of
life.
a. Overcome Sin
Romans 6: 5-11
5 For if we have been united together in the likeness of His death, certainly we also
shall be in the likeness of His resurrection,
6 knowing this, that our old man was crucified with Him, that the body of sin might be
done away with, that we should no longer be slaves of sin.
7 For he who has died has been freed from sin.
8 Now if we died with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with Him,
9 knowing that Christ, having been raised from the dead, dies no more. Death no
longer has dominion over Him.
10 For the death that He died, He died to sin once for all; but the life that He lives, He
lives to God.
11 Likewise you also, reckon yourselves to be dead indeed to sin, but alive to God in
Christ Jesus our Lord.
b. Sickness
Isaiah 53:3-5
3 He was despised and rejected and forsaken by men, a Man of sorrows and pains,
and acquainted with grief and sickness; and like One from Whom men hide their
faces He was despised, and we did not appreciate His worth or have any esteem for
Him.
4 Surely He has borne our griefs (sicknesses, weaknesses, and distresses) and carried
our sorrows and pains [of punishment], yet we [ignorantly] considered Him stricken,
smitten, and afflicted by God [as if with leprosy].
5 But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our guilt and
iniquities; the chastisement [needful to obtain] peace and well-being for us was upon
Him, and with the stripes [that wounded] Him we are healed and made whole. [AMP]
Mark 6:56
56 And wherever He came into villages or cities or the country, they would lay the sick
in the marketplaces and beg Him that they might touch even the fringe of His outer
garment, and as many as touched Him were made whole.
“The word saved in Romans 10:9-10 is the same word translated “made whole”
Sozo Other translations of Sozo are
Mark 5:23 (healed); Mark 16:16 (saved); Luke 8:36 (healed); Acts 2:21 (saved);
Acts 14:9 (healed); Eph 2:8 (saved); James 5:15 (save); Mark 5:34 (Made whole)
c. Restored Hope
1 Peter 1:3
3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His
abundant mercy has begotten us again to a living hope through the resurrection of
Jesus Christ from the dead.
