NEVER ALONE
John 16:7
However, I am telling you nothing but the truth when I say it is profitable (good, expedient,
advantageous) for you that I go away. Because if I do not go away, the Comforter (Counselor,
Helper, Advocate, Intercessor, Strengthener, Standby) will not come to you [into close
fellowship with you]; but if I go away, I will send Him to you [to be in close fellowship with you].

I. WHAT THE HOLY SPIRIT DOES FOR US
1. Testifies of our Status
Rom 8:16
The Spirit Himself [thus] testifies together with our own spirit, [assuring us] that
we are children of God
Ex. My Born-Again Experience
2. Strengthens us
Eph 3:16
That He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened
with might through His Spirit in the inner man.
3. Fills Us.
Eph 5:18
And do not be drunk with wine, in which is dissipation; but be filled with the
Spirit.
Acts 2:4
And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other
tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.
Accts 4:31
And when they had prayed, the place where they were assembled together was
shaken; and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and they spoke the word of
God with boldness.
Ex. Requires a yielding
Ex. Daily Prayer before leaving Home
4. Testifies to Your Conscience
John 16:7-8
Nevertheless I tell you the truth. It is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do
not go away, the Helper will not come to you; but if I depart, I will send Him to
you. 8 And when He has come, He will convict the world of sin, and of
righteousness, and of judgment.
Rom 9:1
I tell the truth in Christ, I am not lying, my conscience also bearing me witness in
the Holy Spirit
5. Changes Us
2 Cor 3:18
But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are
being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of
the Lord.
Ex. Beginning of salvation trying to act a certain way…but He then transforms
you
6. Shows us the Future
John 16:13
However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth;
for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak;
and He will tell you things to come.
7. Helps Subdue the flesh
Rom 8:13
For if you live according to the flesh you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to
death the deeds of the body, you will live.
8. Intercedes for us and through us
Rom 8:26
Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we
should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with
groanings which cannot be uttered.
9. Orders Your Steps
Acts 16:6-9
6 Now when they had gone through Phrygia and the region of Galatia, they were
forbidden by the Holy Spirit to preach the word in Asia. 7 After they had come to
Mysia, they tried to go into Bithynia, but the Spirit did not permit them. 8 So
passing by Mysia, they came down to Troas. 9 And a vision appeared to Paul in
the night. A man of Macedonia stood and pleaded with him, saying, “Come over
to Macedonia and help us.”
10. Comforts Us
Acts 9:31
Then the churches throughout all Judea, Galilee, and Samaria had peace and
were edified. And walking in the fear of the Lord and in the comfort of the Holy
Spirit, they were multiplied.
II. OUR RESPONSIBILITY TO THE HOLY SPIRIT
1. Embrace Him
Acts 19:2
He said unto them, Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed?
2. Don’t Grieve Him
Eph 4:30
And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of
redemption.
3. Don’t Quench Him
1 Thess 5:19
Quench not the Spirit…
4. Don’t Neglect Him
2 Cor 13:14
All the saints salute you. 14 The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of
God, and the communion of the Holy Ghost, be with you all. Amen.
