BECOMING A VESSEL OF HONOR

2 Timothy 2:14-26

Remind them of these things, charging them before the Lord not to strive about words to no profit, to the ruin of the hearers. 15 Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamedrightly dividing the word of truth16 But shun profane and idle babblings, for they will increase to more ungodliness. 17 And their message will spread like cancer. Hymenaeus and Philetus are of this sort, 18 who have strayed concerning the truth, saying that the resurrection is already past; and they overthrow the faith of some. 19 Nevertheless the solid foundation of God stands, having this seal: “The Lord knows those who are His,” and, “Let everyone who names the name of Christ depart from iniquity.”20 But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and silver, but also of wood and clay, some for honor and some for dishonor. 21 Therefore if anyone cleanses himself from the latter, he will be a vessel for honor, sanctified and useful for the Master, prepared for every good work. 22 Flee also youthful lusts; but pursue righteousness, faith, love, peace with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart. 23 But avoid foolish and ignorant disputes, knowing that they generate strife. 24 And a servant of the Lord must not quarrel but be gentle to all, able to teach, patient, 25 in humility correcting those who are in opposition, if God perhaps will grant them repentance, so that they may know the truth, 26 and that they may come to their senses and escape the snare of the devil, having been taken captive by him to do his will.

What Is Honor?

Honor- (timÄ“) price or valued, Highly valued of the Lord

Dishonor (Atimia) disgrace, dishonor, shame; for common use.

What Is It Like To Be Honorable Vessel?

Privileges, what does it mean?  What are the benefits?  How does God respond?  What is it like?  We can see from examples of those he has honored, the benefits of being honored.

1.      He entrusts you with things precious to him

Lk. 1:28-30

And having come in, the angel said to her, “Rejoice, highly favored one, the Lord is with you; blessed are you among women!” 29 But when she saw him, she was troubled at his saying, and considered what manner of greeting this was. 30 Then the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God.

2.      He brags on you

Job. 1:1,6-8

Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the Lord, and Satan also came among them. And the Lord said to Satan, “From where do you come?” So Satan answered the Lord and said, “From going to and fro on the earth, and from walking back and forth on it.” Then the Lord said to Satan, “Have you considered My servant Job, that there is none like him on the earth, a blameless and upright man, one who fears God and shuns evil?”

3.      Reveals his secrets

Dan. 10:11

And he said to me, “O Daniel, man greatly beloved, understand the words that I speak to you, and stand upright, for I have now been sent to you.” While he was speaking this word to me, I stood trembling.

Oh man greatly beloved!  What a statement, he loves us.

4.      Calls you his friend

James 2:23

And the Scripture was fulfilled which says, “Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness.” And he was called the friend of God.

Exodus 33:11

So the Lord spoke to Moses face to face, as a man speaks to his friend…

5.      You have favor with God and Man

What Does It Take?

Luke 9:57-62

Now it happened as they journeyed on the road, that someone said to Him, “Lord, I will follow You wherever You go.” 58 And Jesus said to him, “Foxes have holes and birds of the air havenests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay His head.” 59 Then He said to another, “Follow Me.” But he said, “Lord, let me first go and bury my father.” 60 Jesus said to him, “Let the dead bury their own dead, but you go and preach the kingdom of God.” 61 And another also said, “Lord, I will follow You, but let me first go and bid them farewell who are at my house.” 62 But Jesus said to him, “No one, having put his hand to the plow, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.

            GIVE IT YOUR ALL….WHOLE HEARTED….

2.      Depart from Iniquity

Flee youthful lust…Run after righteousness….

Get away from sin or get sin away from you

3.      Comport Yourself as a servant of Christ.

2 Tim 2:24

And the servant of the Lord must not strive; but be gentle unto all men, apt to teach, patient 25 In meekness instructing those that oppose themselves; if God peradventure will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth; 26 And that they may recover themselves out of the snare of the devil, who are taken captive by him at his will.

DEACONS

Statement

The service of the deacon is a very valuable and needed service within the Church of Jesus Christ. The first deacons were chosen in acts chapter 6 in an effort to relieve the apostles from the daily service and administration of the logistical needs of church members so that they might be free to give themselves continually to prayer and ministry of the word. Just as faithful deacons were needed 2000 years ago so they are needed today. If this were a commercial airliner the job description of the deacon would be that of “Ground Crew.” The deacons who are about to be ordained were chosen in a similar manner as the deacons in Acts chapter 6. The ministry leaders and other key leaders of the church were asked to recommend men who fit the qualifications and description of the deacon. The men and their wives who will stand before you were chosen by recommendation and approved by the Senior Apostle. We have examined them to ensure that they fit the qualifications of the deacon and as such we proudly recommend them for ordination to the service of a deacon.

The Ordination Covenant

Apostle: Do you pledge to be a servant, first to Christ then to your church as long as you’re an active deacon?

Candidate: I will with the Help of God

Apostle: Do you pledge to be an assistant to your Apostle and do all you can to support him as God’s leader?

Candidate: I will with the help of God

Apostle: Do you pledge to be a faithful servant of the sheep and support the structure and the E-3 vision of FAHOW.

Candidate: I will with the help of God

Apostle: Do you pledge to remain consistent to maintain your belief in the word of God as God’s final Authority.

Candidate: I will with the help of God

Apostle: Do you pledge to live up to the qualifications of a deacon found in 1 Timothy 3:8-13?

8 Deacons likewise must be men of dignity, not double-tongued, or addicted                         to much wine or fond of sordid gain, 9but holding to the mystery of the faith with a clear conscience. 10 These men must also first be tested; then let them serve as deacons if they are beyond reproach.  11Women must likewise be dignified, not malicious gossips, but temperate, faithful in all things.  12 Deacons must be husbands of only one wife, and good managers of their                                 children and their own households. 13 For those who have served well as deacons obtain for themselves a high standing and great confidence in the faith that is in Christ Jesus.

Candidate: I will with the help of God

Apostle: Do you vow to be a witness by sharing the gospel to those who are                           unbelievers?

Candidate: I will with the help of God

Having successfully completed the requirements of a deacon and positively affirming your pledge as aforementioned I herby ordain you as a Deacon in the church of Jesus Christ.
