SURRENDER
(part 2)
The Power of Surrender
Let it go and let God have his way
Romans 12:1
I beseech you, therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service.

I.                   PERSONAL SOVEREIGNTY AND FREE WILL
Genesis 1:26
26 Then God said, “Let Us make man in our image, according to our likeness; let them have dominion…

Like God means you are in control of you

II.                SURRENDER
1.     Concept
Romans 6:13
13 Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God.

sur·ren·der: 1 a : to yield to the power, control, or possession of another upon compulsion or demand b : to give up completely or agree to forgo especially in favor of another 2 a : to give (oneself) up into the power of another especially as a prisoner b : to give (oneself) over to something (as an influence) intransitive senses : to give oneself up into the power of another : YIELD synonym see RELINQUISH

a.      It’s not allowing another human to dominate or take control of you
b.     It’s not weakness
c.      It’s not giving up to the enemy
James 4:7
Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
d.     It’s relinquishing your rights voluntarily

III.             SURRENDER REQUESTED
1.     Because God is all and all
Isaiah 66:1-2
“Heaven is My throne, And earth is My footstool. Where is the house that you will build Me? And where is the place of My rest? 2 For all those things My hand has made, And all those things exist,” Says the Lord. “But on this one will I look: On him who is poor and of a contrite spirit, And who trembles at My word.

            Matthew 11:28-30
28 Come unto me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.

2.     The Key component in surrender is trust

3.     It’s the Highest Form of Life
Matthew 16:21-25
21 From that time Jesus began to show to His disciples that He must go to Jerusalem, and suffer many things from the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and be raised the third day. 22 Then Peter took Him aside and began to rebuke Him, saying, “Far be it from You, Lord; this shall not happen to You!” 23 But He turned and said to Peter, “Get behind Me, Satan! You are an offense to Me, for you are not mindful of the things of God, but the things of men.” 24 Then Jesus said to His disciples, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me. 25 For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will find it.

4.     Surrender is seed…you will reap
John 12:24-25
24 Most assuredly, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the ground and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it produces much grain. 25 He who loves his life will lose it, and he who hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life.

IV.             TIPS TOWARDS SURRENDER
1.     Daily Surrender
1 Corinthians 15:31
31 I affirm, by the boasting in you, which I have in Christ Jesus our Lord, I die daily.
Every time you say yes to the will of God you will die.  But you die so you can rise
2.     Don’t Provide for the Flesh
Romans 13:13-14
13 Let us walk properly, as in the day, not in revelry and drunkenness, not in lewdness and lust, not in strife and envy. 14 But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to fulfill its lusts.

3.     Ask God to let you see things through His eyes and think His thoughts

4.     Acknowledge Him in all our ways
Proverbs 3:5-6
5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; 6 In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths.
5.     Consider yourself a slave of Christ
Titus 1:1
This letter is from Paul, a slave of God and an apostle of Jesus Christ. NLT

Let’s go and let God have way

I.                   WHAT IS SURRENDER
1.     Concept
sur·ren·der: 1 a : to yield to the power, control, or possession of another upon compulsion or demand b : to give up completely or agree to forgo especially in favor of another 2 a : to give (oneself) up into the power of another especially as a prisoner b : to give (oneself) over to something (as an influence) intransitive senses : to give oneself up into the power of another : YIELD synonym see RELINQUISH

d.     It’s relinquishing your rights voluntarily

2.     Picture
Galatians 2:19-20
19 For I through the law died to the law that I might live to God. 20 I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.

3.     Language
a.      Not my will but thy will be done. Luke 22:42
b.     Whom have I in heaven but You? And there is none upon earth that I desire besides You. Psalm 73:25
c.      He must increase, but I must decrease. John 13:30
d.     My meat is to do the will of Him that sent me and to finish His work.  John 4:33

f.       One thing I have desired of the Lord, That will I seek: That I may dwell in the house of the Lord All the days of my life, To behold the beauty of the Lord, And to inquire in His temple. Psalm 27:4

II.                WHY SURRENDER
1.     Jesus demands it
Luke 14:25-27;33
25 Now great multitudes went with Him. And He turned and said to them, 26 “If anyone comes to Me and does not hate (love less) his father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters, yes, and his own life also, he cannot be My disciple. 27 And whoever does not bear his cross and come after Me cannot be My disciple…33 So likewise, whoever of you does not forsake all that he has cannot be my disciple.

Luke 9:57-62
57 Now it happened as they journeyed on the road, that someone said to Him, “Lord, I will follow You wherever You go.” 58 And Jesus said to him, “Foxes have holes and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay His head.” 59 Then He said to another, “Follow Me.” But he said, “Lord, let me first go and bury my father.” 60 Jesus said to him, “Let the dead bury their own dead, but you go and preach the kingdom of God.” 61 And another also said, “Lord, I will follow You, but let me first go and bid them farewell who are at my house.” 62 But Jesus said to him, “No one, having put his hand to the plow, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.”

2.     Jesus demonstrated it
John 6:38
"I am come down from heaven, not to do mine own will, but the will of Him that sent me";

John 4:34
"My meat is to do the will of him that sent me";
Hebrews 10:7
…again, "Lo, I come... to do thy will, O God."
John 14:31
31 but I will do what the Father requires of me so that the world will know that I love the Father. NLT

3.     You were made for it

Ecclesiastes12:13-14
13 That’s the whole story. Here now is my final conclusion: Fear God and obey his commands, for this is everyone’s duty.
                        Ecclesiastes 3:11NLT
“Yet God has made everything beautiful for its own time. He has planted eternity in the human heart…”

                        Proverbs 27:20 NKJV
Hell and Destruction are never full; So the eyes of man are never satisfied.

Ecclesiastes 1:8
All things are full of labor; Man cannot express it. The eye is not satisfied with seeing, Nor the ear filled with hearing.

4.     You will be rewarded for it

John 12:24
24 Most assuredly, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the ground and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it produces much grain.

Mark 10:28
28 Then Peter began to say to Him, “See, we have left all and followed You.” 29 So Jesus answered and said, “Assuredly, I say to you, there is no one who has left house or brothers or sisters or father or mother or wife or children or lands, for My sake and the gospel’s, 30 who shall not receive a hundredfold now in this time—houses and brothers and sisters and mothers and children and lands, with persecutions—and in the age to come, eternal life.

III.             DEGREES OF SURRENDER
1.     God Tests for Maximum surrender
Genesis 22:1-2
Now it came to pass after these things that God tested Abraham, and said to him, “Abraham!” And he said, “Here I am.” Then He said, “Take now your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you.”

2.     Perpetual Surrender
Hebrews 4:14-16
14 Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession. 15 For we have not a high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. 16 Let us, therefore, come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.

Answer Key: dominate; demands; demonstrated;

Who Am I?
securing my identity in Christ
(11:30 a.m. Service)

“But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light.”

Jeremiah 5:1 NKJV
“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you; Before you were born I sanctified you; I ordained you a prophet to the nations.”

understanding Identity

What is identity? Identity is who you are, it’s how you see yourself, or the way you think about yourself.  Some synonyms for identity are name, character, status, uniqueness, individuality, singleness.

the power of Identity

Colossians 2:10 AMP
“And in Him, you have been made complete [achieving spiritual stature through Christ], and He is the head over all rule and authority [of every angelic and earthly power].”
Identity is very powerful because not only does it give you definition and purpose, but it also gives you the POWER to ACCESS what’s rightfully yours.  And just as you need a physical I.D.; you also need a spiritual I.D. to access what’s rightfully yours in the spirit.

Identity Theft

John 10:10(a) NKJV
“The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy.”
It’s very important for us in this season to secure our spiritual identity in Christ because so many people have been victims of “IDENTITY THEFT” by the enemy. He tries to “HACK” into our faith with temptations, trials, and tragedies to get us to doubt Christ and doubt who we are in Christ!

hOW DO I SECURE MY Identity IN CHRIST?

1)   I must look to Jesus.
Hebrews 12:2 NKJV
“Looking unto Jesus, the author, and finisher of my faith….”
We look to so many other things in search our identities, when Jesus is the only one who knows everything about us from start to finish.

2 Corinthians 5:17 KJV
“Therefore, if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things have become new.”                                                                              It can be difficult to secure your NEW identity in Christ if you keep holding on to the “OLD YOU”!

3)   I must celebrate who God has made me to be in him                                                        Psalm 139:14 AMP “I will give thanks and praise to You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Wonderful are Your works, And my soul knows it very well.”
God has uniquely created you to be you – be secure!

So who am I?  Let’s decree it!

ü I AM A CHILD OF GOD
ü I AM THE HEAD AND NOT THE TAIL
ü I AM ABOVE ONLY AND NOT BENEATH
ü I AM THE RIGHTEOUSNESS OF GOD
ü I AM THE LIGHT OF THE WORLD
ü I AM A NEW CREATURE
ü I AM AN AMBASSADOR OF CHRIST
ü I AM MORE THAN A CONQUEROR
ü I AM CHOSEN
ü I AM FAVORED
ü I AM LOVED
