JESUS 100 Pt. 4

JESUS 100 Pt. 4

7 WAYS TO GET CLOSER TO JESUS

I. THE MEASURE OF MATURITY IS DEVOTION

1. First Commandment

Matthew 22:37-38

Jesus said to him, “ ‘You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all

your soul, and with all your mind.’ 38  This is the first and great commandment

2. Devotion is Weighed

Philippians 3:12-15

Not that I have already attained, or am already perfected; but I press on, that I

may lay hold of that for which Christ Jesus has also laid hold of me. 13  Brethren, I

do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those

things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead,

14  I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.

15  Therefore let us, as many as are mature, have this mind; and if in anything you

think otherwise, God will reveal even this to you

3. Heart is Weighed

Matthew 15:8-9

“These people draw near to Me with their mouth, And honor Me with their lips,

But their heart is far from Me. 9 And in vain they worship Me, Teaching as

doctrines the commandments of men. “

II. WHAT LOVE WILL DO FOR YOU

1. Highest form of Life

Luke 9:23-24

Then He said to them all, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny

himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow Me. 24  For whoever desires to save

his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will save it.

2. Endurance

1 Corinthians 13:7-8

“Love…bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things…

Love never fails

Song of Solomon 8:6-8

Hang my locket around your neck, wear my ring on your finger. Love is invincible

facing danger and death. Passion laughs at the terrors of hell. The fire of love

stops at nothing— it sweeps everything before it. Flood waters can’t drown love,

torrents of rain can’t put it out.

3. Extravagance

Matthew 26:6-13

And when Jesus was in Bethany at the house of Simon the leper, 7  a woman came

to Him having an alabaster flask of very costly fragrant oil, and she poured it on

His head as He sat at the table. 8  But when His disciples saw it, they were

indignant, saying, “Why this waste? 9  For this fragrant oil might have been sold

for much and given to the poor.” 10  But when Jesus was aware of it, He said to

them, “Why do you trouble the woman? For she has done a good work for Me.

11  For you have the poor with you always, but Me you do not have always. 12  For in

pouring this fragrant oil on My body, she did it for My burial. 13  Assuredly, I say to

you, wherever this gospel is preached in the whole world, what this woman has

done will also be told as a memorial to her.”

4. Purity

Matthew 22:35-40

Then one of them, a lawyer, asked Him a question, testing Him, and saying,

36  “Teacher, which is the great commandment in the law?” 37  Jesus said to him,

“You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with

all your mind.’ 38  This is the first and great commandment. 39  And the second is like

it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ 40  On these two commandments

hang all the Law and the Prophets.”

III. HOW TO LOVE HIM

1. Ask Him to help you Love Him More

John 17:25-26

O righteous Father! The world has not known You, but I have known You; and

these have known that You sent Me. 26  And I have declared to them Your name,

and will declare it, that the love with which You loved Me may be in them, and I

in them.

1 John 4:19

We love Him because He first loved us

Song of Solomon 1:4

Draw me away! We will run after you

2. Learn to Gaze at Him

Luke 10:38-42

Now it happened as they went that He entered a certain village; and a certain

woman named Martha welcomed Him into her house. 39  And she had a sister

called Mary, who also sat at Jesus’ feet and heard His word. 40  But Martha was

distracted with much serving, and she approached Him and said, “Lord, do You

not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Therefore, tell her to help

me.” 41  And Jesus answered and said to her, “Martha, Martha, you are worried

and troubled about many things. 42  But one thing is needed, and Mary has chosen

that good part, which will not be taken away from her.”

3. Try not to offend Him and if You do Deal with it Quickly

1 Thessalonians 5:19

Do not quench the Spirit

Ephesians 4:30

And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day

of redemption.

4. Read the Bible with Him

John 5:39

You search the Scriptures, for in them you think you have eternal life; and these

are they which testify of Me.

JESUS 100 PT. 3

 Jesus 100 (part 3)

KEEP YOUR EYES ON JESUS

Luke 2:41-52

His parents went to Jerusalem every year at the Feast of the Passover. 42  And when He was

twelve years old, they went up to Jerusalem according to the custom of the feast. 43  When they

had finished the days, as they returned, the Boy Jesus lingered behind in Jerusalem. And Joseph

and His mother did not know it; 44  but supposing Him to have been in the company, they went a

day’s journey, and sought Him among their relatives and acquaintances. 45  So when they did not

find Him, they returned to Jerusalem, seeking Him. 46  Now so it was that after three days they

found Him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the teachers, both listening to them and asking

them questions. 47  And all who heard Him were astonished at His understanding and answers.

48  So when they saw Him, they were amazed; and His mother said to Him, “Son, why have You

done this to us? Look, Your father and I have sought You anxiously.” 49  And He said to them,

“Why did you seek Me? Did you not know that I must be about My Father’s business?” 50  But

they did not understand the statement which He spoke to them. 51  Then He went down with

them and came to Nazareth, and was subject to them, but His mother kept all these things in

her heart. 52  And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and men.

I. THE GLORY OF JESUS

1. He is Primary

Colossians 1:15-20

He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. 16  For by Him

all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and

invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things

were created through Him and for Him. 17  And He is before all things, and in Him

all things consist. 18  And He is the head of the body, the church, who is the

beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in all things He may have the

preeminence. 19  For it pleased the Father that in Him all the fullness should

dwell, 20  and by Him to reconcile all things to Himself, by Him, whether things on

earth or things in heaven, having made peace through the blood of His cross.

2. His name is Above Every Other

Ephesians 1:19-23

“… and what is the exceeding greatness of His power toward us who believe,

according to the working of His mighty power 20  which He worked in Christ when

He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly

places, 21  far above all principality and power and might and dominion, and every

name that is named, not only in this age but also in that which is to come. 22  And

He put all things under His feet, and gave Him to be head over all things to the

church, 23  which is His body, the fullness of Him who fills all in all

All of the Bible and the End Time is About who can keep their eyes on Jesus

 Old Testament was about the coming Messiah

 Gospels were about the Present Messiah

 Now it’s about the Returning Messiah

3. All of History is About Him

 OT the coming Messiah

 Gospels The Present Messiah

 The Epistles to now…the soon coming Messiah

Psalm 2

Why do the nations rage, And the people plot a vain thing? 2 The kings of the

earth set themselves, And the rulers take counsel together, Against the LORD

and against His Anointed, saying, 3 “Let us break Their bonds in pieces And

cast away Their cords from us.” 4 He who sits in the heavens shall laugh; The

LORD shall hold them in derision. 5 Then He shall speak to them in His wrath,

And distress them in His deep displeasure, 6 “Yet I have set My King On My

holy hill of Zion.” 7 “I will declare the decree: The LORD has said to Me,

‘You are My Son, Today I have begotten You. 8 Ask of Me, and I will give You

The nations for Your inheritance, And the ends of the earth for Your

possession. 9 You shall break them with a rod of iron; You shall dash them to

pieces like a potter’s vessel.’ ” 10 Now therefore, be wise, O kings; Be

instructed, you judges of the earth. 11 Serve the LORD with fear And rejoice

with trembling. 12 Kiss the Son, lest He be angry, And you perish in the way,

When His wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed are all those who put their

trust in Him.

Smokin' those ki's don't make you no king

See you can run a trap own a house and smoke black and milds

You'll be a king when you can do things like roll back the clouds

[Hook: x2]

[Lecrae:]

Yeah we talkin bout absolute sovereignty, who rules over the earth and it's entirety, who will be

back to reign! Every knee will bow and every tongue will confess Jesus Christ is king of the

kings, yeah, respect it

II. HOW TO KEEP YOUR EYES ON HIM

1. Let Reality Replace Form

“the Feast of the Passover..” - Deuteronomy 16:1-8; 1 Corinthians. 5:7

- They took a Lamb on 10 th of Month - Time of triumphal entry

- Lamb was to be without spot or blemish - Jesus was sinless Son of God

- Killed on 14 th of month - Time of crucifixion

- Sprinkled blood on doorpost – blood from side

- Roast the whole Lamb - He gave his whole life

Matthew 7:21-23

“Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of

heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. 22  Many will say to

Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out

demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’ 23  And then I

will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice

lawlessness!’

2. Stay Reverent (Fresh)

“Twelve years old” (Luke 2:42)

Matthew 13:54-58

When He had come to His own country, He taught them in their synagogue, so that they

were astonished and said, “Where did this Man get this wisdom and these mighty

works? 55  Is this not the carpenter’s son? Is not His mother called Mary? And His brothers

James, Joses, Simon, and Judas? 56  And His sisters, are they not all with us? Where then

did this Man get all these things?” 57  So they were offended at Him. But Jesus said to

them, “A prophet is not without honor except in his own country and in his own house.”

58  Now He did not do many mighty works there because of their unbelief

3. Embrace His Ways

“tarried behind”. (Luke 2:43)

The gap between expectation and reality

4. Ask Him Questions

5. Look for Him Everyday

“a days journey” (Luke 2:44)

6. Cultivate your own experience with him

“kinfolks and acquaintances”. (Luke 2:44)

7. The right Community is where He will be

“in the temple” (Luke 2:46)

Matthew 18:20

For where two or three are gathered together in My name, I am there in the midst of

them

Jesus 100 Pt. 2

Jesus 100

 Focus: 1) Pay particular attention to 2) Adapt to the prevailing level of light and become

able to see clearly

I. Jesus Must Be Our Focus

1. Jesus is above all

John 3:27-31 27  John answered and said, “A man can receive nothing unless it has been

given to him from heaven.  28  You yourselves bear me witness, that I said, ‘I am not the

Christ,’ but, ‘I have been sent before Him.’  29  He who has the bride is the bridegroom;

but the friend of the bridegroom, who stands and hears him, rejoices greatly because of

the bridegroom’s voice. Therefore this joy of mine is fulfilled.  30  He must increase, but

I must decrease.  31  He who comes from above is above all; he who is of the earth is

earthly and speaks of the earth. He who comes from heaven is above all.

2. Jesus is the Head

Ephesians 1:22 22  And He (Father) put all things under His (Jesus) feet, and gave Him to

be head over all things to the church

3. We must look to Jesus

Hebrews 12:2 1 Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of

witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let

us run with endurance the race that is set before us,  2  looking unto Jesus, the author

and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross,

despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

Psalm 120:6- 121:2 6  My soul has dwelt too long with one who hates peace. 7  I am

for peace; but when I speak, they are for war.   1 I will lift up my eyes to the hills—From

whence comes my help? 2  My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth.

 When you focus on one thing, it is impossible to focus on anything else! (Try it) While you

can see other things, you cannot look at anything other than what you choose to focus

on.

II. The Hindrance to Focus

1. Looking at the wrong thing

Genesis 3:2-7 2  And the woman said to the serpent, “We may eat the fruit of the trees

of the garden;  3  but of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God has

said, ‘You shall not eat it, nor shall you touch it, lest you die.’ ”

4  Then the serpent said to the woman, “You will not surely die.  5  For God knows that in

the day you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good

and evil.”

6  So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, that it was pleasant to the

eyes, and a tree desirable to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate. She also gave

to her husband with her, and he ate.  7  Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and

they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together and made

themselves coverings.

2. Having a ‘Plan B’

2 Kings 5:20-26 20  But Gehazi, the servant of Elisha the man of God, said, “Look, my

master has spared Naaman this Syrian, while not receiving from his hands what he

brought; but as the Lord lives, I will run after him and take something from him.”  21  So

Gehazi pursued Naaman. When Naaman saw him running after him, he got down from

the chariot to meet him, and said, “Is all well?” 22  And he said, “All is well. My master has

sent me, saying, ‘Indeed, just now two young men of the sons of the prophets have

come to me from the mountains of Ephraim. Please give them a talent of silver and two

changes of garments.’ ” 23  So Naaman said, “Please, take two talents.” And he urged him,

and bound two talents of silver in two bags, with two changes of garments, and

handed them to two of his servants; and they carried them on ahead of him.  24  When he

came to the citadel, he took them from their hand, and stored them away in the house;

then he let the men go, and they departed.  25  Now he went in and stood before his

master. Elisha said to him, “Where did you go, Gehazi?” And he said, “Your servant did

not go anywhere.” 26  Then he said to him, “Did not my heart go with you when the man

turned back from his chariot to meet you? Is it time to receive money and to receive

clothing, olive groves and vineyards, sheep and oxen, male and female

servants?  27  Therefore the leprosy of Naaman shall cling to you and your descendants

forever.” And he went out from his presence leprous, as white as snow.

 Jesus is not first; He must be only. To view Him from this perspective leaves us with no other

option than to look to Him.

3. Avoiding the Straits

Matthew 7:13-14 13  “Enter by the narrow [strait] gate; for wide is the gate and

broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by

it.  14  Because narrow [strait] is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and

there are few who find it.

John 14:5-6 5  Thomas said to Him, “Lord, we do not know where You are going, and

how can we know the way?” 6  Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the

life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.

III. Seeing/Experiencing Who He Is

1. Lonely? John 15:15

2. Anxious? Isaiah 6:9

3. In darkness? John 1:9

4. Unsure? Revelation 3:14

5. He upholds all things by the word of His power. Hebrews 1:3

6. In Him all things are held together. Colossians 1:17

7. He is THE First and THE Last. Revelation 1:17

JESUS 100 PT. 1

JESUS 100 PT. 1

I. JESUS IS TO BE OUR PRIMARY FOCUS

1. The Son has the final Revelation

Hebrews 1:1-4

God, who at various times and in various ways spoke in time

past to the fathers by the prophets, 2  has in these last days

spoken to us by His Son, whom He has appointed heir of all

things, through whom also He made the worlds; 3  who being the

brightness of His glory and the express image of His person, and

upholding all things by the word of His power, when He had by

Himself purged our sins, sat down at the right hand of the

Majesty on high, 4  having become so much better than the

angels, as He has by inheritance obtained a more excellent name

than they.

2. All the body is served by the head

Col 2:17-19

Which are a shadow of things to come, but the substance is of

Christ. 18  Let no one cheat you of your reward, taking delight in

false humility and worship of angels, intruding into those things

which he has not seen, vainly puffed up by his fleshly mind,

19  and not holding fast to the Head, from whom all the

body, nourished and knit together by joints and ligaments,

grows with the increase that is from God.

3. Loosing first love is detrimental

Rev 2:1-5

To the angel of the church of Ephesus write, ‘These things says

He who holds the seven stars in His right hand, who walks in the

midst of the seven golden lampstands: 2  “I know your works,

your labor, your patience, and that you cannot bear those who

are evil. And you have tested those who say they are apostles

and are not, and have found them liars; 3  and you have

persevered and have patience, and have labored for My name’s

sake and have not become weary. 4  Nevertheless I have this

against you, that you have left your first love. 5  Remember

therefore from where you have fallen; repent and do the

first works, or else I will come to you quickly and remove

your lampstand from its place—unless you repent

4. He is Preeminent

Col 1:15-20

He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all

creation. 16  For by Him all things were created that are in heaven

and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or

dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created

through Him and for Him. 17  And He is before all things, and in

Him all things consist. 18  And He is the head of the body, the

church, who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in

all things He may have the preeminence. 19  For it pleased the

Father that in Him all the fullness should dwell, 20  and by Him to

reconcile all things to Himself, by Him, whether things on earth

or things in heaven, having made peace through the blood of His

cross.

5. Warfare is to disrupt us from Christ. MEDIA JUST

CHANGED THE ORDER

2 Cor 11:1-3

Oh, that you would bear with me in a little folly—and indeed you

do bear with me. For I am jealous for you with godly jealousy.

For I have betrothed you to one husband, that I may present

you as a chaste virgin to Christ. 3  But I fear, lest somehow, as

the serpent deceived Eve by his craftiness, so your minds

may be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ

Matthew 13:18-23

“Therefore, hear the parable of the sower: 19  When anyone hears

the word of the kingdom, and does not understand it, then the

wicked one comes and snatches away what was sown in his

heart. This is he who received seed by the wayside. 20  But he who

received the seed on stony places, this is he who hears the word

and immediately receives it with joy; 21  yet he has no root in

himself, but endures only for a while. For when tribulation or

persecution arises because of the word, immediately he

stumbles. 22  Now he who received seed among the thorns is he

who hears the word, and the cares of this world and the

deceitfulness of riches choke the word, and he becomes

unfruitful. 23  But he who received seed on the good ground is he

who hears the word and understands it, who indeed bears fruit

and produces: some a hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty
