2/23 21st Century Parenting

Psalm 127:3-5

Lo, children are an heritage of the Lord: And the fruit of the womb is his reward.

4   As arrows are in the hand of a mighty man; So are children of the youth.

5   Happy is the man that hath his quiver full of them: They shall not be ashamed, But they shall speak with the enemies in the gate.

I.       WHAT DOES THE BIBLE SAY ABOUT PARENTING

1.  We Should Teach Our Children The Word Of God.

Deut. 6:6-7

“And these words which I command you today shall be in your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up.

2.  We Should Train Our Children (Leadership By Example).

Proverbs 22:6

Train up a child in the way he should go, And when he is old he will not depart from it.

3.  We Should ___________________________ For Our Children.

2 Cor. 12:14-15

14 Now for the third time I am ready to come to you. And I will not be burdensome to you; for I do not seek yours, but you. For the children ought not to lay up for the parents, but the parents for the children.

4.  We Must ______________________ Our Children.

Eph. 6:4

And you, fathers, do not provoke your children to wrath, but bring them up in the training and admonition of the Lord.

5.  We Must Correct Our Children.

Proverbs 13:24

24He who spares his rod hates his son, But he who loves him disciplines him promptly.

Proverbs 19:18

18Chasten your son while there is hope, And do not set your heart on his destruction.

                Proverbs 22:15

15Foolishness is bound up in the heart of a child; The rod of correction will drive it far from him.

                Proverbs 23:13

13Do not withhold correction from a child, For if you beat him with a rod, he will not die.
