PAY ATTENTION
The Holy Spirit
Hebrews 2:1
Therefore we ought to give the more earnest heed to the things, which we have heard, lest at any time we should let them slip.
I.                   ATTENTION
Neuroplasticity  - The brain is malleable and adaptable, changing moment by moment of every day.
Neurogenesis  - Every morning when you wake up, new baby nerve cells have been born while you were sleeping. These nerve cells are ready to be programmed into what we want. We can use them to create new thought patterns.
Lamentations 3:23
22 Through the Lord’s mercies, we are not consumed Because His compassions fail not. 23 They are new every morning; Great is Your faithfulness.

Philippians 3:1
Finally, my brethren, rejoice in the Lord. For me to write the same things to you is not tedious, but for you it is safe.
2 Peter 1:9
For he who lacks these things is shortsighted, even to blindness, and has forgotten that he was cleansed from his old sins.

Just consider this partial list of Old Testament memorials

·         The Passover -- the deliverance of Israel from Egypt
·         The feasts of Purim-- the reversal of Haman's decree Esther 9:20 – 32
·         The Feast of Tabernacles, a reminder of Israel’s deliverance from Egypt Leviticus 23:39-43
·         The Lord’s Supper, a reminder of the broken body and shed blood of Christ Luke 22:19

II.                WE MUST PAY ATTENTION TO THE HOLY SPIRIT
1.      He is Eternal
Hebrews 9:14
“How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered Himself without spot to God, cleanse your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?”

2.      He is Everywhere
Psalm 139:7-13
“Where can I go from Your Spirit? Or where can I flee from Your presence? 8 If I ascend into heaven, You are there; If I make my bed in hell, behold, You are there. 9 If I take the wings of the morning, And dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea, 10 Even there Your hand shall lead me, And Your right hand shall hold me. 11 If I say, “Surely the darkness shall fall on me,” Even the night shall be light about me; 12 Indeed, the darkness shall not hide from You, But the night shines as the day; The darkness and the light are both alike to You. 13 For You formed my inward parts; You covered me in my mother’s womb.

3.      He has All Power
Luke 1:35
35 And the angel answered and said to her, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Highest will overshadow you; therefore, also, that Holy One who is to be born will be called the Son of God.

4.      He knows Everything
1 Corinthians  2:10
“But God has revealed them to us through His Spirit. For the Spirit searches all things, yes, the deep things of God.

III.             WHAT IS HE LIKE:

1.      He Hangs Around
John 14:15
15 “If you love Me, keep My commandments. 16 And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever—17 the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you.

2.      He Helps Us
John 15:26
But when the Helper comes, whom I shall send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth who proceeds from the Father, He will testify of me.

Luke 1:35
35 And the angel answered and said to her, The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Highest will overshadow you; therefore, also, that Holy One who is to be born will be called the Son of God.

Daniel 10:16-19
16 And suddenly, one having the likeness of the sons of men touched my lips; then I opened my mouth and spoke...As for me, no strength remains in me now, nor is any breath left in me.” 18 Then again, the one having the likeness of a man touched me and strengthened me...So when he spoke to me I was strengthened, and said, “Let my lord speak, for you have strengthened me.

b.      Emotions
Gal atians5:22-23
22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentlenesses, self-control.
I feel better, so much better, since I laid my burdens down

c.       Direction
John 16:13
However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come.
John 14:26
But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you.

d.      Prayer

Romans 8:26
26 Likewise, the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered

§  It Builds our Faith
Jude 1:20
20 But you, beloved, building yourselves up on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Spirit.

1 Corinthians 14:4
He who speaks in a tongue edifies himself….

§  It Let’s your spirit pray to God.
1 Corinthians14:2
For he who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men but to God, for no one understands him; however, in the spirit, he speaks mysteries.

§  It’s Healthy
1 Corinthians 14:4
He who speaks in a tongue edifies himself….

Dr. Carl Peterson, M.D. conducted a study at ORU in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Being a brain specialist, he was doing research on the relationship between the brain and praying or speaking in tongues. He found that as we pray in the Spirit or worship in the Spirit (our heavenly language), the brain releases two chemical secretions that are directed to our immune systems giving a 35 to 40 percent boost to the immune system. This promotes healing within our bodies. Amazingly, this secretion is triggered from a part of the brain that has no other apparent activity in humans and is only activated by our Spirit-led prayer and worship!
e.       Faith
Galatians 2:20

20 I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.
