WARRING FOR YOUR INHERITANCE

Joshua 1:1-9

After the death of Moses the servant of the Lord, it came to pass that the Lord spoke to Joshua the son of Nun, Moses’ assistant, saying: “Moses My servant is dead. Now therefore, arise, go over this Jordan, you and all this people, to the land which I am giving to them—the children of Israel. Every place that the sole of your foot will tread upon I have given you, as I said to Moses. From the wilderness and this Lebanon as far as the great river, the River Euphrates, all the land of the Hittites, and to the Great Sea toward the going down of the sun, shall be your territory. No man shall be able to stand before you all the days of your life; as I was with Moses, so I will be with you. I will not leave you nor forsake you. Be strong and of good courage, for to this people you shall divide as an inheritance the land which I swore to their fathers to give them. Only be strong and very courageous, that you may observe to do according to all the law which Moses My servant commanded you; do not turn from it to the right hand or to the left, that you may prosper wherever you go. This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success. Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”

I.               WE HAVE AN INHERITANCE

1.     There is always land to take

Gen 1:27-28

So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. 28 Then God blessed them, and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it

Subdue – Subjugate, violate, make it obey you

2.     There is a goal

Phil 3:13-14

Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, 14 I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.

Sometimes is comes by

·      Seed Thoughts

·      Prophecy

·      Dreams

·      Inspired Desires

·      Examination of Burdens or Life Experiences

II.              WE MUST WAR FOR OUR INHERITANCE

1.     Take it by force

Matthew 11:12

And from the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffers violence, and the violent take it by force

Take (harpazo)– snatch away, take away, seize

2.     Press into it

Luke 16:16

“The law and the prophets were until John. Since that time the kingdom of God has been preached, and everyone is pressing into it.

Press (biazo) – Dominate, Constrain

3.     Occupy it

Luke 19:11-17

And as they heard these things, he spoke a parable, because he was near   Jerusalem, and because they thought that the kingdom of God should immediately appear. 12 He said, A certain nobleman went into a far country to receive for himself a kingdom, and to return. 13 And he called his ten servants, and delivered them ten pounds, and said unto them, Occupy till I come.

Occupy – Do business, be about the business

4.     Possess it

Joshua 18:3

Then Joshua said to the children of Israel: “How long will you neglect to go and possess the land which the Lord God of your fathers has given you?

Possess – Take possession, Be an heir

III.            HOW TO WAR

1.     Recognize the change in season

Joshua 1:2

“Moses My servant is dead. Now therefore, arise, go over this Jordan

2.     Identify the obstacles and rise above them

Joshua 1:2

Now therefore, arise, go over this Jordan,

3.     Take somebody with you

Joshua 1:2

you and all this people

4.     Discern what’s yours

Joshua 1:2-3

“to the land which I am giving to them”… 3 Every place that the sole of your foot will tread upon I have given you

5.     Expect Opposition

Joshua 1:5

No man shall be able to stand before you all the days of your life; as I was with Moses, so I will be with you.

Men will come against you but they won’t stand against you

6.     Consider your Senior Business Partner

Joshua 1:5

I will not leave you nor forsake you

Many don’t consider God partner in their endeavors.  He is with you always, but He is also with you in acquisition.

7.     Don’t Compromise

Joshua 1:7

Only be strong and very courageous, that you may observe to do according to all the law which Moses My servant commanded you.

Many do compromise their values to succeed.

8.   Cultivate an inner life that can sustain the pressures of your new endeavors

Joshua 1:8

This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success

9.     Press on in the midst of fear

Joshua 1:9

Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”
