You & I | Chris Searcy | 7.17.22

You & I – Living together in UNITY

We need the Holy Spirit.

Previous:

Acts 1:4-5

4And while staying with them he ordered them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the

promise of the Father, which, he said, “you heard from me; 5for John baptized with water, but

you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now.”

The reward of Christ is a beautiful spotless empowered bride.

When Christ departed in the flesh, he brought us the holy spirit to lead us into our

destiny/promise

Acts 1:8

But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses

to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.

It is God in us through the Holy spirit that allows us to do miracles, signs, and wonders prophesy

but also live a holy life together as one body.

Unity is Vital for Holy Spirit Flow. God is getting serious! He is calling the church back to its rightful state before him. He is calling

us to unity and holiness.

Why?

Because God is getting ready to bring in the great harvest and he wants his house clean.

EX. Mom when church people would come over how we had to clean up.

EX. Waking up on a Saturday and Kirk Franklin is blasting through the house. That is

where we are beloved

Say: “God is getting his house in order.”

What does this look like, and how do we partner with God in this?

We can stay right here in Acts to find the answer.

Acts 2:1

When the Day of Pentecost had fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. 2 And

suddenly there came a sound from heaven, as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled the whole

house where they were sitting.

“With one accord” That phrase is mentioned three times in the first two chapters of the book of Acts

2:1

1:14 - All these with one accord were devoting themselves to prayer,

2:44-47 - 44And all that believed were together and had all things common; 45and sold their

possessions and goods, and parted them to all men, as every man had need. 46And they,

continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, did eat

their meat with gladness and singleness of heart, 47praising God, and having favor with all the

people. And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved.

What does this mean?

It simply means that every single believer was in agreement with all of the other believers

concerning the Gospel of Jesus Christ and were working together to accomplish His will and not

their own.

Easier said than done.

Many in the body of Christ are divided by so many things, and many are looking to star.

Because it is so difficult then how were 120 people in one accord?

Because it was Gods command:

The 120 people waiting in the upper room after Jesus’ ascension were obeying what Jesus had

told them to do. In Acts 1:4, Jesus commanded them “that they should not depart from Jerusalem

but wait for the promise of the Father.”

The command of Jesus was their common goal!

Obedience to the commands of Jesus always brings about one accord. Their will was no longer

their own but rather it was subjected to Christ.

“In one place” What does this mean?

It is interpreted literally that they were all physically together in one place.

In Acts 2, the chapter begins with the 120 in the room still waiting in one accord when the Holy

Spirit comes suddenly.

There was no announcement, no sign, no warning, the Holy Spirit came suddenly to where Jesus

had told them to wait.

There was no announcement, no sign, no warning.

The Holy Spirit came suddenly after 10 consecutive days of waiting on him.

Imagine being the one person in the upper room:

Who got a call from your significant other on the morning of day 10

“Did you take the chicken out the freezer to thaw you know we have company coming over

tonight….. AWWW man i’ll be right back brother peter I gotta do something real quick.

He’s walking back to the upper room and hears (tounges) (sees blind eyes open) and realizes he

missed out) starts crying!

But more realistically imagine being there on day five and you get a call from that job you’ve

been wanting.

Or that person you’ve been really liking calls you and asks you to go on a date that night

Or maybe you just really don’t like “them church people enough to be living with them for 10

straight days.

The disciples tarried through all of it!

In fact, they rejoiced they were on one accord. Why!!!???

 Because they had seen him.

Just like the pharisees we can try and strive to follow these rules, but we’ll fail over and over and

over and over again.

The only thing capable of preserving us, of bringing us together, of keeping us together is the

man Christ Jesus!

Acts Chapter 2:1 was one of Christ’s miracles!

They were captured by the most beautiful, holy, worthy man that they had ever seen.

So how do we wait in one accord in one place, on the second coming of Christ and all the

promises that come with it.

It is by gazing on the Beauty of the man Christ Jesus.

The only way to do that is by asking the holy Spirit, our helper, reveal the beauty of Jesus to me.

Help me to see him rightly. Show me the son in all his glory.

Help me to be in love, help me to be captured so that the things of earth grow strangely dim in

the light of his Glory and Grace!

HEART POSTURES THAT ASSIST UNITY

1. Gaze at Jesus and Pray for it

2. Practice towards it

Eph 4:1-3

I, therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you to walk worthy of the calling with

which you were called, 2 with all lowliness and gentleness, with longsuffering, bearing

with one another in love. 3 endeavoring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of

peace.

a. Walk in humility

b. Practice loving confrontation

3. Stand Fast

Phil 1:27

Only let your conduct be worthy of the gospel of Christ, so that whether I come and see

you or am absent, I may hear of your affairs, that you stand fast in one spirit, with one

mind striving together for the faith of the gospel

4. Believe that it is possible

Eph 4:11

And He Himself gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some

pastors and teachers, 12 for the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry, for the

edifying of the body of Christ, 13 till we all come to the unity of the faith and of the

knowledge of the Son of God, to a perfect man, to the measure of the stature of the

fullness of Christ
