Acts 28 Pt. 4

Acts 28

The Power of Prophetic Decrees

But a certain man named Ananias, with Sapphira his wife, sold a possession. 2  And he kept back

part of the proceeds, his wife also being aware of it, and brought a certain part and laid it at the

apostles’ feet. 3  But Peter said, “Ananias, why has Satan filled your heart to lie to the Holy Spirit

and keep back part of the price of the land for yourself? 4  While it remained, was it not your

own? And after it was sold, was it not in your own control? Why have you conceived this thing

in your heart? You have not lied to men but to God.” 5  Then Ananias, hearing these words, fell

down and breathed his last. So great fear came upon all those who heard these things. 6  And the

young men arose and wrapped him up, carried him out, and buried him. 7  Now it was about

three hours later when his wife came in, not knowing what had happened. 8  And Peter

answered her, “Tell me whether you sold the land for so much?” She said, “Yes, for so much.”

9  Then Peter said to her, “How is it that you have agreed together to test the Spirit of the

Lord? Look, the feet of those who have buried your husband are at the door, and they will

carry you out.” 10  Then immediately she fell down at his feet and breathed her last. And the

young men came in and found her dead, and carrying her out, buried her by her husband.

I. WE GOVERN IN THIS WORLD

1. Dominion

Gen 1:26

Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let

them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over

the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the

earth.

Psalm 115:16

The heaven, even the heavens, are the LORD’s; But the earth He has given to the

children of men.

2. Many Things Won’t Happen Unless We Initiate Them

Ex. Prayer – Lord’s Prayer

Do a study on how many times Jesus just spoke to things

Ex. Storm Peace be still; Demons “Go”; Withered Hand Stretch out; Rise take up

your bed and walk

II. WE GOVERN THROUGH WORDS

1. Say

Mark 11:22-24

So Jesus answered and said to them, “Have faith in God. 23  For assuredly, I say to

you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be removed and be cast into the sea,’ and

does not doubt in his heart, but believes that those things he says will be done,

he will have whatever he says. 24  Therefore I say to you, whatever things you ask

when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you will have them

2. Words are Adjudicated

Mark 12:37

For by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be

condemned

3. Small Words Accomplish Big Things

James 3:1-12

My brethren, let not many of you become teachers, knowing that we shall

receive a stricter judgment. 2  For we all stumble in many things. If anyone does

not stumble in word, he is a perfect man, able also to bridle the whole body.

3  Indeed, we put bits in horses’ mouths that they may obey us, and we turn their

whole body. 4  Look also at ships: although they are so large and are driven by

fierce winds, they are turned by a very small rudder wherever the pilot desires.

5  Even so the tongue is a little member and boasts great things. See how great a

forest a little fire kindles! 6  And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity. The

tongue is so set among our members that it defiles the whole body, and sets on

fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire by hell. 7  For every kind of beast and

bird, of reptile and creature of the sea, is tamed and has been tamed by

mankind. 8  But no man can tame the tongue. It is an unruly evil, full of deadly

poison. 9  With it we bless our God and Father, and with it we curse men, who

have been made in the similitude of God. 10  Out of the same mouth proceed

blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not to be so. 11  Does a

spring send forth fresh water and bitter from the same opening? 12  Can a fig tree,

my brethren, bear olives, or a grapevine bear figs? Thus no spring yields both salt

water and fresh

Ex. Laws are either spoken or written words

III. HOW TO AWAKEN THE POWER OF WORDS

1. Stay Conscious of the Power

Jer 1:9-10

“Behold, I have put My words in your mouth. 10 See, I have this day set you over

the nations and over the kingdoms, To root out and to pull down, To destroy and

to throw down, To build and to plant

Ex. Sword from my office

2. Stay full of the Holy Spirit

Acts 13:6-13

Now when they had gone through the island to Paphos, they found a certain

sorcerer, a false prophet, a Jew whose name was Bar-Jesus, 7  who was with the

proconsul, Sergius Paulus, an intelligent man. This man called for Barnabas and

Saul and sought to hear the word of God. 8  But Elymas the sorcerer (for so his

name is translated) withstood them, seeking to turn the proconsul away from

the faith. 9  Then Saul, who also is called Paul, filled with the Holy Spirit, looked

intently at him 10  and said, “O full of all deceit and all fraud, you son of the devil,

you enemy of all righteousness, will you not cease perverting the straight ways

of the Lord? 11  And now, indeed, the hand of the Lord is upon you, and you shall

be blind, not seeing the sun for a time.” And immediately a dark mist fell on

him, and he went around seeking someone to lead him by the hand.

3. Partner with God

Psalm 19:12-14

Who can understand his errors? Cleanse me from secret faults. 13 Keep back Your

servant also from presumptuous sins; Let them not have dominion over me.

Then I shall be blameless, And I shall be innocent of great transgression. 14 Let the

words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart Be acceptable in Your sight.

Psalm 141:3

Set a guard, O LORD, over my mouth; Keep watch over the door of my lips

Ex. Gathering to Capture Saddam Hussein

Ex. Prayer for first Black President

4. Pray in Tongues Often and Release an Unction When You Sense One
