The Morning After | Pastor Chris | 10am

The Morning After

Last week: What sustains us in this walk of death to self

Next week: Lance putting off the Old Self and Putting On the New Self

Coercion - the practice of persuading someone to do something by using force or threats:

James 1:12-14
12 Blessed is the man who remains steadfast under trial, for when he has stood the test he will receive the crown of life, which God has promised to those who love him.

13 Let no one say when he is tempted, “I am being tempted by God,” for God cannot be tempted with evil, and he himself tempts no one. 14 But each person is tempted when he is lured and enticed by his own desire.

“In the garden what did God say?”

Genesis 2:16-17 (ESV):

"And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, 'You may surely eat of every tree of the garden, but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.'"

What did the devil say?

Genesis 1:4-6

4 But the serpent said to the woman, “You will not surely die. 5 For God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”

So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was a delight to the eyes, and that the tree was to be desired to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate, and she also gave some to her husband who was with her, and he ate.

Identify the lie:

•    “This time will be different”

•   “Whats the harm”

•   “You only live once”

•   “It aint that bad”

James 1:15

15 Then desire when it has conceived gives birth to sin, and sin when it is fully grown brings forth death.

1 Call sin what is sin

2 Fight

            1 Corinthians 9
24 Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one receives the prize? So run that you may obtain it. 25 Every athlete exercises self-control in all things. They do it to receive a perishable wreath, but we an imperishable. 26 So I do not run aimlessly; I do not box as one beating the air. 27 But I discipline my body and keep it under control,[b] lest after preaching to others I myself should be disqualified.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                3 Find accountability

The hard part in this battle against Good and evil… the final Boss…. Is you!

Because the devil cant make you do anything. He can only present you with a choice……

Its impossible to fight yourself by yourself!
