THE POWER OF ANGELS
Momma has some help!

INTRO:  Today is about Thanksgiving…
Thank you to moms
Thank you to God for help

I. THE JOB OF A MOTHER

My sister's little boy came in the kitchen one evening
while she was fixing supper,
and he handed her a piece paper he had been writing on.
and after wiping her hands on an apron,
she took it in her hands and read it
and this is what it said:
For mowing the yard $5,
and for making up my own bed this week $1,
for going to the store $.50,
and playing with little brother while you went shopping for $.25,
taking out the trash $1,
and for getting a good report card $5,
and for raking the yard $2 -
total owed $14.75.
Well, she looked at him standing there and expecting,
and a thousand memories flashed through her mind,
so she picked up pen and turned the paper over and this is what she wrote:

For the nine months, I carried you, holding you inside me - no charge,
for the nights I sat up and doctored you and prayed for you - no charge,
for the time and tears and the costs through the years -
there is no charge.
when you add it all up, the full cost of my love is no charge.
For the nights filled with grey
and the worries ahead,
for the advice and the knowledge
and the costs of your college -
no charge.
for the toys, school, and clothes
and for wiping your nose -
there's no charge, son.
when you add it all, the full cost of my love is no charge.

Well, you know when I think about that,
I think about the day that Jesus went out to Calvary and gave His life as a ransom for me.
when I think on the words, "if any man be in Christ, he’s a new creature,"
I like to think about the very minute that He shed His blood
my debt was paid in full,
and I want you to know today
when you add it all u,p
the full cost of real love is no charge!

II.  GOD ANSWERED MOMMA’S PRAYERS

Luke 18:1-8
Then He spoke a parable to them, that men always ought to pray and not lose heart, sayings: “There was in a certain city a judge who did not fear God nor regard man. Now there was a widow in that city; and she came to him, saying, ‘Get justice for me from my adversary.’ And he would not for a while; but afterward, he said within himself, ‘Though I do not fear God nor regard man, yet because this widow troubles me I will avenge her, lest by her continual coming she weary me.’ ” Then the Lord said, “Hear what the unjust judge said. And shall God not avenge His own elect who cry out day and night to Him, though He bears long with them? I tell you that He will avenge them speedily. Nevertheless, when the Son of Man comes, will He really find faith on the earth?”

  III.  ANGELS AND CHILDREN

The word “angel and “angels appear in the Old Testament 108 times and 165 times in the New Testament.
The work of angels is referred to almost 250 times.

Thirty-four of the Bible’s sixty-six books talk about angels in detail.
There are 104 recorded appearances of angels to men—and even one to a donkey (Numbers 22:23).
Matthew 18:10
10 “Take heed that you do not despise one of these little ones, for I say to you that in heaven their angels always see the face of My Father who is in heaven.”
Acts 12:13-15
13 And as Peter knocked at the door of the gate, a girl named Rhoda came to answer. 14 When she recognized Peter’s voice, because of her gladness she did not open the gate, but ran in and announced that Peter stood before the gate. 15 But they said to her, “You are beside yourself!” Yet she kept insisting that it was so. So they said, “It is his angel.”
Psalm 91:11-12
11 For He shall give His angels charge over you, to keep you in all your ways. 12 In their hands, they shall bear you up, lest you dash your foot against a stone.

  IV.  ANGELS HELPING MOTHERS

A.   Hagar
Genesis 21:14-19
14 So Abraham rose early in the morning, and took bread and a skin of water; and putting it on her shoulder, he gave it and the boy to Hagar, and sent her away. Then she departed and wandered in the wilderness of Beersheba. 15 And the water in the skin was used up, and she placed the boy under one of the shrubs. 16 Then she went and sat down across from him at a distance of about a bowshot; for she said to herself, “Let me not see the death of the boy.” So she sat opposite him, and lifted her voice and wept. 17 And God heard the voice of the lad. Then the angel of God called to Hagar out of heaven, and said to her, “What ails you, Hagar? Fear not, for God has heard the voice of the lad where he is. 18 Arise, lift up the lad and hold him with your hand, for I will make him a great nation.” 19 Then God opened her eyes, and she saw a well of water. And she went and filled the skin with water, and gave the lad a drink.
B.   Samson’s Mother
Judges 13:2-5
Now there was a certain man from Zorah, of the family of the Danites, whose name was Manoah; and his wife was barren and had no children. And the Angel of the Lord appeared to the woman and said to her, “Indeed now, you are barren and have borne no children, but you shall conceive and bear a son. Now, therefore, please be careful not to drink wine or similar drink, and not to eat anything unclean. For behold, you shall conceive and bear a son. And no razor shall come upon his head, for the child, shall be a Nazirite to God from the womb; and he shall begin to deliver Israel out of the hand of the Philistines.”
C.Mary
Luke 1:26-38
26 Now in the sixth month, the angel Gabriel was sent by God to a city of Galilee named Nazareth, 27 to a virgin betrothed to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David. The virgin’s name was Mary. 28 And having come in, the angel said to her, “Rejoice, highly favored one, the Lord is with you; blessed are you among women!” 29 But when she saw him, she was troubled at his saying, and considered what manner of greeting this was. 30 Then the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. 31 And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bring forth a Son, and shall call His name Jesus. 32 He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Highest, and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David. 33 And He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of His kingdom there will be no end.” 34 Then Mary said to the angel, “How can this be, since I do not know a man?” 35 And the angel answered and said to her, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Highest will overshadow you; therefore, also, that Holy One who is to be born will be called the Son of God. 36 Now indeed, Elizabeth your relative has also conceived a son in her old age; and this is now the sixth month for her who was called barren. 37 For with God nothing will be impossible.” 38 Then Mary said, “Behold the maidservant of the Lord! Let it be to me according to your word.” And the angel departed from her.
D.  Zachariah and Elizabeth
Luke 1:11-13
11 Then an angel of the Lord appeared to him, standing on the right side of the altar of incense. 12 And when Zacharias saw him, he was troubled, and fear fell upon him. 13 But the angel said to him, “Do not be afraid, Zacharias, for your prayer, is heard; and your wife Elizabeth will bear you a son, and you shall call his name John.”

    IV.    ANGELS HELPING DADS

A.      Abraham
Genesis 22:11
11 But the Angel of the Lord called to him from heaven and said, “Abraham, Abraham!” So he said, “Here I am.” 12 And He said, “Do not lay your hand on the lad, or do anything to him; for now I know that you fear God since you have not withheld your son, your only son, from Me.”
B.      Wife for Isaac
Genesis 24:40
40 But he said to me, “The Lord, before whom I walk, will send His angel with you and prosper your way; and you shall take a wife for my son from my family and from my father’s house.”
C.      Joseph
Matthew 1:20
20 But while he thought about these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, “Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take to you Mary your wife, for that which is conceived in her, is of the Holy Spirit.”
Matthew 2:13
13 Now when they had departed, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream, saying, “Arise, take the young Child and His mother, flee to Egypt, and stay there until I bring you word; for Herod will seek the young Child to destroy Him.”
Matthew 2:19
19 Now when Herod was dead, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared in a dream to Joseph in Egypt, 20 saying, “Arise, take the young Child and His mother, and go to the land of Israel, for those who sought the young Child’s life are dead.”
