Power of the Name: The Position of Jesus Christ

Power of the Name
The Position of Jesus Christ

I. Who is Jesus

  • Jesus is the second person in the trinity
  • He is God, the Son
  • The word by whom the earth was created, Gen 1:3, John 1:1
  • Later came to work in the world which He created, John 1:14
John 14:12-14, "Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father. "And whatever you ask in My name, that I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it.

A. The name of Jesus is activated by humility, obedience, and alignment under the authority of His name

Mark 16:17-19 And these signs will follow who believe: In My name, they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues; 18they will take up serpents; and if they drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick and they will recover; 19So then the Lord had spoken to them, He was received up to heaven, and sat down at the right hand of God.

B. Believers have the authority to use His name because of their relationship

C. Relationship is a process, we are His bride

II. We are the bride of Jesus Christ

2 Corinthians 11:2 For I am jealous for you with godly jealousy. For I have betrothed you to one husband, that I may present you as a chaste virgin to Christ

Revelations 19:7 Let us be glad and rejoice, and Him glory: for the marriage of the Lamb has come, and his wife has made herself ready.

A. We must bear His name. We are legitimized by the way we behave and carry ourselves

B. We must align ourselves in faith

C. Your spirit man must be submitted to Jesus Christ

1 Thessalonians 5:23 Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you completely; and may your whole spirit, soul, and body be preserved blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

III. The Tripartite Man

A. Spirit, Soul, and Body

Man is a spirit; he has a soul and lives in a body.

B. Life is on three planes: Natural, Carnal, and Spiritual

1. We must save the natural man. He is dirt

1 Corinthians 2:14 But the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.

2. Overcome our carnal man

1 Corinthians 3:1-3 And I, brethren, could not speak to you as to spiritual people but as to carnal, as to babes in Christ. 2I fed you with milk and not with solid food; for until now you were not able to receive it, and even now you are still not able; 3for you are still carnal. For where there are envy, strife, and divisions among you, are you not carnal and behaving like mere men?

3. Empower our spiritual man

2 Corinthians 6:14-18 Do not be unequally yoked together with unbelievers. For what fellowship has righteousness with lawlessness? An what communion has light with darkness? 15And what accord has Christ with Belial? Or what part has a believer with an unbeliever?16And what agreement has the temple of God with idols? For you are the temple of the living God. As God has said: "I will dwell in them and walk among them. I will be there God, and they shall be my people." 17Therefore, "Come out from among them And be separate, says the Lord. Do not touch what is unclean, And I will receive you." 18I will be a Father to you, and you shall be My sons and daughters, Says the Lord Almighty."

4. Power works by submission to authority

Philippians 2:6-11 who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, 7 but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men. 8And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross.  9Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, 10that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and those on earth, and of those under the earth, 11and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

Romans 10:13-14 For "whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved." 14How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher?

Matthew 7:20-22 Therefore by their fruits you will know them.  21"Not everyone who says to Me, 'Lord, Lord,' shall enter into the kingdom of heaven. 22Many will say to Me in that day, "Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?'

5. We have to understand the meaning of His name to effectively use it

Joshua - means (HEB) Yahshua = Yah+shuah. Yah is short for Yahweh,
Yeshuah - which means: "to save, save alive, rescue, to deliver"

IV. CAUTION

A. Jesus will rescue whoever calls upon His name in times of need

Act 2:21 And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved.

B. Because many are called but few are chosen

Matthew 24:5 For many will come in My name, saying, 'I and the Christ,' and will deceive many.

C. You and your household are created for miracles

Isaiah 8:18 here am I and the children whom the Lord has given me! We are for signs and wonders in Israel From the Lord of hosts, Who dwells in Mount Zion.

D. He has given you power

Luke 10:19 Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you. KJV

E. You have to operate in the Spirit
